Robots that go around clearing trays
Coffee shops are one of the places which you would least expect implementations new technology implementations, let alone robots. However, Koufu has employed robots which roam the aisles, allowing you to place your dirty trays from where you are seated. It is most likely that we will see more versions of such robots in most of our coffee shops in the future, as technology advances.
Food tech beef that is not meat
Impossible Burger’s developers came up with a beef patty for their burger which is entirely plant-based but tastes and feels exactly like actual beef. They achieved this through a plant-based taste molecule called “heme”, which is extracted from soy plants roots. This breakthrough does more than just look and taste cool. It is a sustainable way of creating meat which requires less land and water compared to ranching.
Kitchen run by robots
Application of robots in the F&B industry is not just limited to clearing trays. Using robots to prepare dishes is becoming increasingly popular as a means of kitchen automation and standardizing food taste and quality. Such applications are in place in various F&B businesses, for example, Ruyi by Tunglok, and Hai Di Lao’s automated restaurant outlet.
Self-ordering kiosks
Self-ordering kiosks are getting increasingly popular in Singapore, as we see it everywhere we go, especially in McDonald’s. These kiosks systems help move the queue faster as merchants can open up more payment terminals with lesser space requirements.
QR code mobile ordering
QR code ordering technology is being used all over China and is now gaining traction in Singapore as well. Restaurants like Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant, BBQ Box and Lao Cheng Du are using iMakan’s QR Code Solution. This has helped them tremendously with manpower shortage issues, as customers place orders on their own through their own mobile phones.
It is expected that QR code ordering will be widely used in F&B industries as manpower scarcity issues prevail.
